"Celebrate Tonight"

Graduate school is no joke...(duh). So I have been writing a lot...kind of, but clearly not on my blog. My apologies!

Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing singer Allen Stone perform live at Lincoln Park in Chicago. It was great! As part of Chipotle's "Cultivate Festival," Mr. Stone sang all of my favorite tunes from his latest EP and I won a free burrito! (If you don't know who he is, please Google him.)

I just wanted to share these photos. Don't worry! I will be back to my sports and political writing very soon. Don't think I haven't been paying attention to football and politics lately...I have :-)

A half interesting night of Music: 2011 Grammy's

The 53rd annual Grammy awards aired Sunday night with an exciting intro that quickly dwindled down as the show went on.

From a variety of genres, Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, and Florence (from Florence and the machine) set the stage with a tribute to the "Queen of Soul", Aretha Franklin.

Notable performances early on in the show included artists Rihanna, Eminem, and Dr. Dre as well as a solo Katy Perry performance, a notable performance that featured B.o.B., Bruno Mars, and Janelle Monae, and an interesting performance between Cee-lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow.

To the surprise of many, Justin Beiber did not win Best New Artist. Instead, an underrated and not as well-known artist, Esperanza Spalding, took the Grammy for the year. (Find out more about the multi-instrumentalist here.)

After those key events, the award show became a little less interesting to many viewers.

My favorite moments from historic Superbowl 45

Sunday night the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers to become Superbowl Forty-five champions. I was pleased..but so many other things were interesting, aside from the actual game. Christina Aguilera is all the buzz because she forgot the words to the "National Anthem." I guess she hoped that if she substituted a few words, no one would notice? Nah, we did.

Halftime was arguably the best in years..probably since the whole Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson incident in 2004. Glee! afterwards was amazing! I'm a fan..and catching the Superbowl audience was great. FOX actually made a fan out of one of my good friends!

But what really got us all were the commercials!! The ratings actually were at a record high for the game Sunday night, so a ton of people watched these. Here are a few of my favorites from last night. (Warning: The second one's pretty gross.)

"Let's have a toast for the douche bags."

MTV premiered its annual Video Music Award show Sunday night, hosted by comedienne Chelsea Handler in Los Angeles, California. While there were a few good performances, the overall show was pretty dull.

The night ended with eight VMA awards for Lady Gaga in a meat dress, Chelsea Handler in a hot tub with the Jersey Shore cast, a memorable performance by Usher, and two "interesting" performances by both Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

To provide a little background, West interrupted Swift last year during her award acceptance for video of the year, but this year, the two of them interrupted our televisions with odd performances that seemingly addressed last year's incident.

First, it was Swift. Her performance opened with a video showing West interjecting during her acceptance speech. Then, she proceeded to debut a song which rang "forgiveness" to West for his actions.

The song definitely wasn't the fairytale, Romeo and Juliet-type songs the 20-year-old's audience is used to hearing.

To close the show, Kanye West performed his song in a bright red suit with gold chains. No rapping from him, just singing.Runaway (Live):

The lyrics possibly alluded that he was going to change his ways. He spoke of someone being fed up with his actions and sang about "making a toast" to various groups including "douche bags", among other negative name-callings. Cool, huh?

And that was about all that made the show worth watching.
